A long time coming, but well worth the wait!A long time coming, but well worth the wait! BY TERRY HOLUB

Lorimor's Mayor Kent Forbes sat in his new office and smiled a genuine Lorimor-serving smile.  "It's a great day for our community," he said.  "Lorimor [pop. 427] is heading in the right direction."

The day in question occurred a couple weeks ago when Lorimor, on a stunning Saturday afternoon, held an Open House for its brand-spanking new 60 X 100 City Hall/Community Center.

The newly christened building dominates an entire corner of downtown Lorimor.  The building, in addition to the mayor's office, includes a large city clerk office [Mary Seales] that includes a separate room with ample storage, a city council meeting area with new tables and chairs, a large kitchen that includes two of almost everything [2 stoves; 2 dishwashers; 2 refrigerators], an airy community room, and a small room for the Lorimor Lorimorian, the town's weekly communique.

After, what seemed a long wait, the new Community Center/City Hall Building project is now completed.  The City Hall offices were occupied in August and the Community Center has been used by several organizations in the past two months.  The New Lorimorian is printed there each Monday.  The weekly Congregate Meal is held each Monday as well.  The Lorimor Community Boosters have used the Community Center for a couple of dinners, one being their very well-attended Noodle Dinner during the Fall Festival.  The American Legion Auxiliary meets in the Center monthly.  The Center has also been rented for a wedding reception and a wedding anniversary party.  Plans have been finalized to make Tuesday afternoons the "Game Day".  Residents are invited to use the Center for cards, table games, puzzles, or just to gather and visit.  Coffee and tea will be available for the participants.  Word is out that we have two tables of pinouchle players eager to start.  Bingo will be held on Thursday nights.  Exercise sessions are also being planned.
