Luke Johnson, Fire Chief, and Barbi Holtry, Captain of the First Responders, met with the City Council, February 6, 2006, and gave their 2005 Year End Reports.  The Fire Department made 35 calls during the year.  The department now has 14 members with five of those members having completed the Firefighter I training during the year.  The Fire Department was awarded several grants during the year that allowed the firefighters to obtain some valuable equipment including a ventilation fan, generator, four SCBAs and 8 spare oxygen bottles.  The department continues to improve through individual training and also works towards improving the emergency vehicle fleet by obtaining better vehicles and maintenance of the existing vehicles.

The EMS staff includes 2 First Responders, 1 registered nurse, 1 EMT-B, 1 EMT-I.  Currently there are 3 students taking EMT-B courses.  Sarah Johnson completed her CPR instructors course and can now do CPR renewals in house.  All EMS staff took continuing education training in 2005.

Our Fire Department and EMS members are to be commended for their commitment to continued training and better service to the public.

At the present time, the Fire Department and EMS is looking upgrade their equipment by purchasing an ambulance that would allow better care for the patient as well as expanded storage for their equipment.  The plan for purchasing the ambulance includes the submission of several grant applications.  The ambulance is presently owned by the City of Norwalk and is being used at the present time.
