Lorimor City Council Meeting

Special Session    April 10, 2006

 

The Lorimor City Council met in special session, Monday, April 10, 2006, with Mayor Kent Forbes presiding.  Council members answering roll call: Davis, Orwan, Schmidt, Tucker, Wright.

Wright moved to accept the agenda with a second from Schmidt.  Vote – all ayes.  Motion carried.

Dave Mulholland, Community Building Project Engineer, presented change order #1 on the Site Plan Project.  The Council had reviewed the Change Order previous to the meeting.  Davis moved to accept the Change Order #1 with a second from Schmidt.  Roll call vote:  Davis, Orwan, Schmidt, Wright – aye.  Tucker – nay.   Motion carried.

Applications for the part time public works position had been turned in to City Hall by April 5th.  The Mayor had reviewed the applications and recommended the Council hire John T. Edwards as the part time public works employee.  Orwan moved to accept the Mayor’s recommendation and hire Edwards.  Second from Schmidt.  Roll call vote – all ayes.  Motion carried.  The Mayor recommended that, as part of the position. Edwards be required to obtain wastewater operator credentials as part of the educational requirements for this position.  Orwan moved to approve that recommendation with a second from Wright.  Vote – all ayes.  Motion carried.

The Mayor also asked for approval to purchase a set of walkie-talkies to be used for communication between City Hall and Edwards.  Edwards offered that the Fire Department might have a set of radios that could be used.  Orwan moved to purchase a set of walkie-talkies if none are available from the Fire Department.  Davis seconded.  Vote – all ayes.  Motion carried.

Seales reported to the Council on findings about demolition of commercial buildings.  She had visited with the Clerk from Guthrie Center that had some experience with commercial building demolition.  It would involve following DNR regulations for asbestos testing and removal with the cost being very prohibitive.  The City would need possession of the property before demolition could begin.  After discussion, Schmidt moved to authorize the City Attorney to send a letter to James Zwiebel offering forgiveness of any delinquent utility bills in exchange for the deed to the property.  Second from Wright.  Vote – all ayes.  Motion carried.

The first reading of the proposed amendment to the Natural Gas Ordinance increasing the natural gas cost to the customer by $.15 was offered.  Schmidt moved to approve the reading, second from Orwan.  Roll call vote:  Davis, Orwan, Schmidt, Wright – aye.  Tucker – nay.   Motion carried.

Davis moved to adjourn with a second from Wright.  Vote – all ayes.  Motion carried.  Meeting adjourned at 8:25 P.M.
