Merry Fu Club History
The Merry Fu Book Club is 54 years old and still in existence.  In 1942 a group of young women in Lorimor met and organized a book club.  Each member passed a book to another member from a list made up by the officers.  A   limit of 12 members was set.  Dues were 10 cents a month....remember it was the early 1940's.
As the members were all young married women, it was agreed to purchase a baby gift should a member have a baby.  Many baby boomers around Lorimor recieved gifts from the Merry Fu.
Eventually the book passing became hard to keep up with, so it was agreed to just go social, and if the hostess chooses, to have games or entertainment, it was her choice.
Lunch is always served first, before the business or entertainment.
Many women from the area have been members and enjoyed the social part of the club.
The dues were raised to $1.50 a year, and we each donate $1.00 to enable us to donate to  the Cancer and Heart drives, Christmas Candy and East Bunny projects, and other causes as they come up.   If our treasury is low we each donate more.
We lost our last Charter Member, Maxine Orwan, recently.   Marlys Kilpatrick and Harriet Williams were also long time members.
We go out to eat as a group and enjoy getting together to visit.
We meet once a month and continue to enjoy our Christmas party, which is lunch out and a gift exchange.  We also enjoy a picnic in the Park in July.
We have survived many changes.  We've grown older, lost many members, gained many new ones, and continue to enjoy our little social club.  We  all look forward to the second Thursday of each month for a good visit, a few laughs, and always a good lunch.
