The small town community of Lorimor, Iowa U.S.A. - Lorimor Community Center - City Hall Building Project https://www.lorimor.org/taxonomy/term/57/0 Lorimor Community Center-City Hall Project en LORIMOR'S NEW CITY HALL/COMMUNITY CENTER https://www.lorimor.org/lorimors_new_city_hall_community_center <p>&nbsp;<span class="inline left"><img src="https://www.lorimor.org/system/files/images/Front+Entrance+Facing+West.img_assist_custom.jpg" alt="A long time coming, but well worth the wait!" title="A long time coming, but well worth the wait!" class="image img_assist_custom" width="400" height="300" /><span class="caption" style="width: 398px;"><strong>A long time coming, but well worth the wait!</strong></span></span>&nbsp;BY TERRY HOLUB</p> <p>&nbsp;Lorimor's Mayor Kent Forbes sat in his new office and smiled a genuine Lorimor-serving smile.&nbsp; &quot;It's a great day for our community,&quot; he said.&nbsp; &quot;Lorimor [pop. 427] is heading in the right direction.&quot;</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp; The day in question occurred a couple weeks ago when Lorimor, on a stunning Saturday afternoon, held an Open House for its brand-spanking new 60 X 100 City Hall/Community Center.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp; The newly christened building dominates an entire corner of downtown Lorimor.&nbsp; The building, in addition to the mayor's office, includes a large city clerk office [Mary Seales] that includes a separate room with ample storage, a city council meeting area with new tables and chairs, a large kitchen that includes two of almost everything [2 stoves; 2 dishwashers; 2 refrigerators], an airy community room, and a small room for the Lorimor Lorimorian, the town's weekly communique.</p> <br class="clear" /><br class="giImageBlock-clear-both" /><p><a href="https://www.lorimor.org/lorimors_new_city_hall_community_center">read more</a></p> Lorimor Community Center - City Hall Building Project Sat, 21 Oct 2006 08:58:53 -0600 bonnieriepe 560 at https://www.lorimor.org Community Building https://www.lorimor.org/community_building <p>After, what seemed a&nbsp;long wait, the new Community Center/City Hall Building project is now completed.&nbsp; The City Hall offices were occupied in August and the&nbsp;Community Center has been used by several organizations in the past two months.&nbsp; The New Lorimorian is printed there each Monday.&nbsp; The weekly&nbsp;Congregate Meal&nbsp;is held each Monday as well.&nbsp; The Lorimor Community Boosters have used the Community Center for a couple of dinners, one being their very well-attended Noodle Dinner during the Fall Festival.&nbsp; The American Legion Auxiliary meets&nbsp;in the Center&nbsp;monthly.&nbsp; The Center has also been rented for&nbsp;a wedding reception and&nbsp;a wedding anniversary party.&nbsp; Plans have been finalized&nbsp;to make Tuesday afternoons the &quot;Game Day&quot;.&nbsp; Residents are invited to use the Center for cards, table games, puzzles, or just to gather and visit.&nbsp; Coffee and tea will be available for the participants.&nbsp; Word is out that we have two tables of pinouchle players eager to start.&nbsp; Bingo will be held on Thursday nights.&nbsp; Exercise sessions are also being planned.&nbsp;</p> <br class="clear" /><br class="giImageBlock-clear-both" /><p><a href="https://www.lorimor.org/community_building">read more</a></p> Lorimor Community Center - City Hall Building Project Fri, 29 Sep 2006 09:49:16 -0600 mseales 522 at https://www.lorimor.org
