The terrorist aren't quite sure what trigger President Bush might pull if the USA has a major terrorist attack. This Bush factor forces caution on their part as to when they next attack the United States. With my meager power to surmise the Islamic mind (although I taught, trained and supervised Arabs in the Mid-East) they will want to hurt Bush as much as possible.

The Iranians (Shiite) poked President Carter in the eye when they released the embassy hostages the day he left office. The Sunni influenced the elections in Spain by bombing Madrid trains four days before the Spanish elections. Looking at just that when the attack comes may depend on the political polls just before November 2008. If not then I would suggest (guess) near the time of the swearing in of the next U.S. President.

My wife, Gannie, son Brandon, 13, and I returned home to Wahoo, Neb., after visiting my mother, Doris, on Thursday and Friday.

We enjoyed mother's cooking on Thanksgiving. Mom made my favorite side dishes, apple salad and carrot casserole. She made pumpkin pie for Brandon. She also served turkey and dressing with cranberries, mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potatoes and raspberry gelatine salad.

I also ate a great deal of her homemade peanut brittle, carmel popcorn and other candy.

I'm sure glad we drove Thursday morning instead of Wednesday night. We saw more than six vehicles in the ditch along Interstate 80 and U.S. Highway 169 that had wrecked due to icy and snow-covered roads.

I got a flood of e-mail (one) asking why I had not written a column for months.

Many readers want to know what happened to former Lorimor residents. Others want to read about what happened in the "good ol' days" in Lorimor.

Quite frankly, since I have not lived in Lorimor for so many years, the well has pretty much run dry on those subjects. Yes, there was a time when Lorimor had three bars, every building on Main Street had a store in it and people came downtown every Saturday night just for the excitement. Yes, there were square dance lessons by Frank Adams, there were three full service gas stations, two grocery stores, a bank, movie theater, drug store, variety store, grain elevator, lumber yard, hardware store, other businesses and more churches. The town was self-sufficient.

With major league baseball in full swing, it reminds me of playing baseball in Lorimor.

There are many names that come to mind from the "Wee-wees," "Pee-Wees," high school junior varsity and varsity baseball. Some of them may surprise you.

Did you know the late Rick Gibson play little league baseball. Yep. Right field. Like me, he wasn't fleet and didn't hit of field that well, but when you grow up in Lorimor, you need every able-bodied boy in town to make a team.

Ah, yes, Murphy's White House.

I dare say it was the most popular bar in Union County for some time. It had it all: bands, a dance floor, a super bar, and a great recreation room.

It seems to me that when the late Clyde Kilpatrick started the bar, there was only one place serving drinks over the counter - Ciccios Restaurant. And a fine restaurant it was. Yes, indeed, people would come from miles to dine at Ciccios'. It became so popular as a restaurant, there wasn't really a bar in town where a farmer felt comfortable coming in with manure on his boots.

It's great to have the new civic center in Lorimor, but let's not forget about all the neat stuff that happen at that location back when it was the drugstore and movie theater.

You could generally find Randy Scarberry there. Where is he now? Remember the Stockman family - Butch, Tom, Jerry and all the kids? Where are they now? Perhaps many of you folks now where that famous railroader, Don "Bear" Courtney lives, but not me.

There was a ton of shoplifting in that drugstore - nearly all candy bars. Remember, there was a long table in the front part of the store with all the candy on it. The antique tables and chairs were at the rear of the store.
